duras *and* viola

i can't agree with duras's statement: 'quand vous lisez un livre, vous avez un film de ce livre dans la tĂȘte'. i've never had this filmic experience when reading a novel. why is that?

don't people want to experience different art forms precisely because they are different? people seek them out because they need whatever it is in that art form that pleases them aesthetically, intellectually, or even somatically. why employ this poor metaphor for the experience of reading? it's clearly because this experience is so undescribable that we clutch at straws and can only ever come up with poor responses, like this.

anyway, boring. reading is really more like video art: an assault on the senses that, when really good, can only ever make sense when removed from your asethic, intellectual, somatic or whatever experience of it.
