breakthrough discoveries

to leave a bus-stop frustrated and walk to your destination or to wait for the next bus and abuse the angry underpaid bus driver? an eternal traveller's question. the answer is in, and with maths to prove it.

it's almost always better to wait for the next bus then to steam off angry. what's more, it doesn't pay to start walking and jump on the bus at the next stop. this is just a waste of energy and increases the chances of you missing the bus. the mathematicians say that 'the time spent waiting added to the time the bus would take is almost always lower than the time it would take the commuter to walk'.

tho' there is an exception. it does pay to walk when the bus is due in an hour or more and your desitnation is less than 1 km away. but that seems far too obvious, kind of like the whole question in the first place.

oh! and for the record. according to tv show 'mythbusters' it is better to walk in the rain than to run. this i found harder to believe....

ha ha! if you're house is 48 metres away, it's best not to wait for the next bus in 3 hours 10.

i usually just walk because i feel like walking. they didn't take in the psychological element. typical reductio logico-positivists.
